Yoga Friday!!!

It is YOGA Friday!!!!

Today's pose is CAT.  Did you know we hold the majority of our stress and tension in our shoulders? This pose is excellent in stretching the spine, shoulders, chest and neck all the while increasing energy! What a great break from work or general stress reliever throughout the day!

It is YOGA FRIDAY!!!!!

So how can YOGA benefit you? 

Yoga addresses core strength which is necessary for all physical activities, especially sustained ones like sitting at a desk and learning! The Yoga Friday Program we have in the works incorporates problem solving, memory and other executive functioning skills necessary for learning.


 

While we are using Yoga to exercise the body, many people feel that Yoga is a calming and focusing activity and has many mental benefits including improved concentration and organization. 

Today's Yoga Pose is: 
"Take a breath and pose today"

Executive Functions.

I spent my Friday at a table listening to a talk on executive functions and while I was EXHAUSTED from sitting and paying attention all day, I learned more than I had anticipated and made so many connections between the kiddos I see and the true, underlying role that Executive functioning skills play in the majority of issues they face!

So what are executive functions responsible for??

Fashionably Late!

Occupational Therapy started with a bang this year at Underhill! Not only are we now located in the main building, but we have gained a valuable Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who has a spectacular connection with the kiddos and loves to experiment with new activities! 




We are currently working on fall projects along with various movement activities. The most exciting of our movement activities is: YOGA FRIDAY! We are working on making Friday a day to celebrate movement with various Yoga poses and relaxation. Our plan is to post a new pose each Friday so that everyone can learn about the physical and mental benefits!
